If any of you remembered my posted blog "The Filipino chess fans and Grandmaster Wesley So".
In that blog entry I discussed the phenominal number of members that join the page of GM Wesley So at chessgames.com.
Now i want to make a follow up post on it.
I actually started kibitzing at Wesley So page at chessgames.com at its 10 first pages,I started to become a fan of Wesley So when i saw one of his game being featured at the game of the day feature of Chessgames.com.
During that time, theres few of us regulars kibitzing in that page and the issue being discussed is solely addressed in chess.
After GM So got his final GM norm and won the tournament in Dubai, coupled with a win at Corus C , Wesley So page at chessgames.com jus got flooded of membership.
Anybody im sure would find it amazing how such a number of enthusiastic chessfan would gather and kibitz everyday to the point that additional and additional pages keep on turning and surpassing the pages of other popular Grandmasters.
Its hard for me to say if the members who lately are active in kibitzing at wesley so page got things out of control in there bid to surpass the most popular page/most kibitz GM page at chessgames.com.
It might be that the most zealot of the Wesley So fan who had time to do it spam the page,or topic go out of chess and instead focus on basketball, footall and tinikling which has nothing to do with Wesley So and his career.
Here is the posting guidelines of chessgames.com when it comes to posting kibitz.
No obscene, racist, sexist, or profane language.
No spamming, advertising, or duplicating posts.
No personal attacks against other users.
Nothing in violation of United States law.
This afternoon chessgames user ohiochess fan, one of the most respected kibitzer at chessgames.com lodge a complaint at chessgames.com chessforum saying.
OhioChessFan: Have you had a look recently at the Wesley So page? I understand you don't wish to come down hard on kibitizing, but that page is sprawling like kudzu. He is way too important to the chess world to see Team Rosters of hundreds of people repeatedly posted and pages and pages of votes for game moves and lists of basketball players and idle chitchat and this and that littering his forum.
On a happier note, it rocks that Magnus took the World Game offer seriously.
Chessgames.com reply to the complaint is.
chessgames.com: OhioChessFan: Have you had a look recently at the Wesley So page?
Not until you mentioned it, and we concur it is definitely getting out of hand. Even more bothersome is when we flipped back a few days there seems to be what looks like a correspondence game using his player page as a vehicle for move voting--although we're not quite sure what was going on there.
Thanks for bringing this to our attention, and remember you can always use the "Whistle" function to bring things like this to administrator's attention. This is especially important on Wesley's page because nobody on our staff can speak a word of Tagalog.
I hope that if ever theres a violation only a warning should be given, I hope no membership will get banned,no post delition will happen nor the page dont get shut off to everybody.A warning is ok to first offender.
